County staff have started to move into the 225 W. Madison Street building as the innovative, adaptive reuse project nears completion. The former Madison Street jail has been transformed over the past two years into a modern office space for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. The location next to Superior Court provides a more convenient, secure way for prosecutors to move between their offices and the courts.
The Madison Street Jail had been empty for more than a decade when county leaders, after a great deal of study, determined it would be more cost effective to re-purpose the building rather the demolish it and build a new one.
Many of the attorneys moving into 225 W. Madison currently work in the county administration building at 301 W. Jefferson St. When they move, other county departments (currently in leased locations elsewhere) can move in, saving taxpayer money.
