Mowing Down Pollution Program

Mowing Down Pollution Header

To help improve air quality and reduce air pollution produced by gasoline powered lawn and garden equipment, the Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) in partnership with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, created the Mowing Down Pollution program for residential and commercial equipment.

The program encourages the use of clean electric or battery powered lawn and garden equipment rather than gasoline powered lawn and garden equipment to aid in the reduction of air pollution year-round.

Commercial

This handheld lawn and garden equipment replacement program allows government agencies and businesses operating in Maricopa County to replace up to ten gasoline powered handheld lawn and garden devices per year to receive a $50 voucher for each working gasoline handheld device turned in at a participating drop-off location. Once turned in, devices are recycled. The voucher must be used towards the purchase of a new electric or battery powered handheld lawn and garden device at participating Home Depot locations.

Residential

This lawn and garden replacement program provides Maricopa County residents an opportunity to replace a gasoline powered lawn mower and/or a gasoline powered handheld lawn and garden device to receive a $150 voucher towards the cost of a new electric and a battery powered lawn mower and/or a $50 voucher towards the cost handheld lawn and garden device at participating Home Depot stores after recycling gas-powered equipment at a participating drop-off location.

Why Should You Replace Your Old Lawn
and Garden Equipment?

This program gives YOU the power to aid in pollution reduction efforts. Electric and battery powered lawn and garden equipment are quieter and cleaner and eliminate the hassle of obtaining and using gasoline.
