Volunteering with MCACC
How to Become a Volunteer
Thank you for wanting to help Maricopa County’s shelter pets! See below for details on our volunteer application. We are currently recruiting volunteers to fill many of the openings we have at both our East and West Shelters: Gallery of Cats Assistant, Laundry Team, In-Kennel Enrichment, and Water and Poo Crew. See the Opportunity Directory for more details on each of these shifts. Our next orientations date will be Wednesday, October 27th from 11 am to 1 pm in-person at our West Shelter.
Volunteers provide care for our homeless animals in every area from cleaning kennels to matching a family with their new furry pet. We also have roles throughout our programs where volunteers can get involved in offsite events, administrative tasks, and even walking dogs.
Do you want to learn more about the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control volunteer program? Please watch a short video to see the expectations and realities of volunteering at the animal shelter and then preview the volunteer handbook to get a better understanding of what we’re all about!
After viewing the video and handbook, if you are still interested in becoming part of the team, please complete the volunteer application and questionnaire here. Our standard review and response time for all volunteer applications is 72 hours from date of submission.
We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months. We offer flexible schedules and a variety of assignments that are sure to appeal to every individual! As a volunteer, you will be supporting our mission by caring for our animals and serving the members of our community.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to volunteer. Children as young as 15 may volunteer alongside a parent/guardian who has attended all required volunteer training. More information regarding volunteer requirements can be found in the Volunteer Handbook.
MCACC does not have a separate community service volunteer option. If you are interested in volunteering with MCACC to satisfy court-ordered community services hours, please follow the above steps to submit your application for the volunteer program. MCACC can approve your court-ordered community service if you are able to meet the minimum requirements necessary to volunteer and successfully complete your volunteer hours.
